3/1-2023 – Debut of the Dragonheart Corsairs

”Ah, it feels great to be out again! It’s no fun at all hiding from those pesky Ork and Tyranids! But nice of them to leave us some useful loot to pilfer,” said Jaxxarath Dragonheart, Felarch of the Dragonheart Corsairs.

”Yes, Felarch,” his first mate Texatar Darkstorm agreed. ”But we seem to have company.”

”What is this you say? Mon-keigh Space Marines? They always spoil the fun! Gather what you loot can and hide! We’ll give them a warm welcome!”

In the Octarius sector, war still rages between the Orks and the Tyranids. Opportunistic warbands from all over the galaxy came to loot the spoils of the ongoing war, coming into conflict with both sides and other forces in the area. The Dragonheart Corsairs, a small band of Voidscarred crewing the Hemlock class escort the Dragonheart, are led by Felarch Jaxxarath Dragonheart and sail under the banner of the Void Dragons, one of the largest Aeldari Pirate Fleets, also called Anhrathe.

On the ground on Octarius, the principal planet in the Octarius sector, Primaris Vanguard Space Marines from the Red Scorpions Chapter had been avoiding Ork and Tyranid patrols for weeks and were in need of supplies. The Space Marines came upon a ruined Ork settlement which had seen recent fighting, but still held a large cache of equipment scattered around the ruins. To the dismay of the Space Marines, they also spotted the Voidscarred of the Dragonheart Corsairs. Wary of these Aeldari pirates, the Red Scorpions Infiltrator Sergeant immediately ordered his squad to fan out and approach in cover. Felarch Jaxxarath was alerted of the approaching Space Marines and ordered his troops to loot and salvage as much as possible while engaging the humans.

The Phobos armoured marines approach stealthily and the swift Aeldari dashed to loot the caches spread around the area before moving out of sight to attack. The Way Seeker tried to outflank the Red Scorpions and unleashed a lightning strike on the hiding Infiltrator Sergeant, but failed to do any harm. Fearing the counterattack, he then summoned a warding shield on himself. The Infiltrator Sergeant used his marksman bolt carbine and bolted discipline to great effect, severely injuring the Way Seeker with a flurry of bolts through the warding shield. The Incursor Marksman climbed up on the ruins on the opposite flank to gain a vantage point and took out the looting Voidscarred Fate Dealer below. The Infiltrator Veteran scaled the ruins on the flank next to his Sergeant and fired down on the Kurnite Hunter, injuring him.

However, the Voidscarred had collected enough loot to proclaim a flawless raid, and deftly switched to counterattack. The brash Jaxxarath bravely charged the Reiver and both fighters cut each other down. However, the nearby Helix Adept managed to save the Reiver’s life. The Shade Runner ghosted straight through the intervening ruins to stab the Infiltrator Commsman in the gut. On the upper levels of the ruins, the Voidscarred Gunner fired his blaster, obliterating the Incursor Marksman taking cover in the ruins across from him. The Starstorm Duelist and the injured Kurnite Hunter fired their shrunken pistols, taking out the Infiltrator Veteran holding a vantage point on top of the ruin.

On her own, the Soul Weaver turned the corner and shot down the Reiver again. As before, the Helix Adept managed to save him. The injured Reiver returned fire with his special issue bolt pistol and took out the Soul Weaver. The Sergeant shot down the injured Way Seeker, before being injured by fire from the Starstorm Duelist and Kurnite Hunter. The Voidscarred gunner finished him with a devastating shot from his blaster.

Laying down suppressive fire and smoke grenades, the remaining Red Scorpions retreated with their wounded, leaving the victorious Dragonheart Corsairs to recover their incapacitated fellows and gather the remaining loot.

”Ouch! That hurt! How interesting! These mon-keigh are something new. Bigger and stronger than the ones we’ve met before. Let’s not underestimate them again. But we got the loot so all is good!” Jaxxarath exclaimed as Shiena Moonbeam, the Soul Weaver weaved her powers to heal him. ”Call for the transport and let’s be off!”

21/6-2020 – Search for the damaged Overlord

Rurik Sureshot of the Frostwolves Nightstalker Infiltration Pack slowly moved his hand to the sight of his marksman bolt carbine. He had the Dire Avenger Exarch dead in his sight. But as the Aeldari Guardian Defenders were patrolling at street level below his sniper’s nest in the ruined tower, he would be unable to make a stealthy exit if he took the shot. His orders were to observe only, and he had been very surprised when Aeldari from the Eiyoltan Craftworld had appeared. He was expecting some Necrons coming back for their damaged constructs. It seemed there had been some kind of teleportation malfunction, as the Necrons normally teleported their dead and damaged away. This time, however, there were still a few damaged Necron constructs littered about the battlefield, where the Beaststalkers had defeated them a few days ago. The Nightstalkers had been ordered to remain and observe if the Necrons returned.

On cue, there was alarm among the Aeldari, and Rurik moved his scope to the other end of the street. A Kill Team of hulking Necron Immortals and Lychguard appeared, led by a Deathmark. The Dire Avenger Exarch and his three Dire Avengers swiftly scaled a ruin to get a better firing position, as the Guardian Defenders advanced down the barricaded street with the scatter laser weapon platform hovering before them.

The Exarch peppered the Deathmark with shuriken discs from his two avenger shuriken catapults, but the construct merely suffered minor damage before ducking out of sight behind the ruins. One of the Lychguard scaled the wall to the Dire Avengers and cut one in half with his warscythe. The Guardians shot down the other Lychguard, as he ran towards them, but they were soon pinned down by the return fire.

After most of the Guardians had been killed or lost their nerve, the Exarch signalled for a retreat and the last surviving Aeldari withdrew.

The Necrons did not pursue, and Rurik watched them dig around a few the piles of damaged bodies before the Deathmark triumphantly lifted the head of a Necron Overlord. It was the same head that the Farslayers had put a bolt through, and the damage was still evident. The Deathmark called the Immortals to his side and the larger Necrons dug up the rest of the Overlord’s damaged body. As the Necrons took their prize and departed, Rurik quietly voxed his pack leader.

’Jarek, I have their trail.’

21/6-2020 – Intelligence sweep

’It’s too open. I don’t like it,’ murmured Jarek Nightstalker under his breath.

Rurik had followed the Necrons to another part of the ruined city, where they had descended down into some subterranean tunnel. Jarek and the rest of the Nightstalkers had met up with him there. ’We need to see what those tunnels lead to,’ said Jarek. ’We move in and eliminate the guards. If the metal bastards bring reinforcements, we withdraw.’

This said, Jarek and Alarik snuck up the middle of the road, crouching behind cover. The sniper Rurik and auspex-equipped Dag deployed in some ruins on the left flank, covering the road and opposite building. Nord moved up the right flank in the cover of the containers.

But the guarding Necrons were immediately alerted and moved to intercept. A pair of Flayed Ones appeared out of a pile of debris in the building and advanced on Nord. Alarik gave Jarek a stimm-shot and he vaulted the cover to engage the Necron Warriors in close combat. Dag used his scanner to assist Rurik and both fired on the Necron Warrior on the other end of the road. Nord gained the higher ground by standing on top of the container and firing on the approaching Flayed One. Jarek ripped pieces of the Necron Warrior before him, but was unable to take him down.

The Nightstalkers ducked the Necron return fire, and Nord used his shock grenade to confuse the charging Flayed One, but only managed to wound the tough construct. The Necron Warriors fell back from Jarek and let the unengaged Warriors fire on him. Jarek was wounded several times, but denied death and stood firm. Alarik joined him and threw grenades into the Necron Warriors, but they proved tough to displace.

Another volley of fire brought a severely wounded Jarek down, and the Nightstalkers decided to withdraw. Nord seeded the battlefield with his remaining shock grenades and fled from the reanimated Flayed Ones he was engaged with, as Rurik and Dag covered Alarik, as he pulled the prone body of Jarek from the fighting.

’Fall back!’ Dag shouted into the comms, and fired his marksman bolt carbine again. Alarik had picked Jarek up and was running as fast as he could, while the rest of the Nightstalkers covered his retreat.

’The Necrons have a much greater presence here than we thought. It’s time to report back to command.’

2/3-2020 – The Night Terrors

Morven the Terrible is a Pack Leader of the Reiver pack the Night Terrors and all are veterans of the Indomitus Crusade. Once they were reunited with the Space Wolves, they were sent to the Frostwolves and are currently engaged as a Kill Team on Vigilus.

The Night Terrors’ first mission on Vigilus was to retrieve sensitive information from an immobilised Razorback, that had been damaged during the Genestealer Cult uprising.

The Night Terrors formed up in a group, planning to sprint to the Razorback. When they found themselves surrounded by Lictors and Tyranid Warriors, they fell back behind a ruin on one flank to focus on one flanking Lictor at a time. Unfortunately, the Tyranids proved too fast and charged the Space Wolves. A krak grenade from Nils Strongman, the Kill Team demolitions specialist, gave a nasty flesh wound to a Tyranid Warrior, as Vidar Beastslayer, the combat specialist, engaged the charging Lictor. He slayed the first one, but was struck down by the second. With flesh wound accumulating, the Night Terrors morale broke, and they retreated.

After resting and healing, the Night Terrors tried to approach the Razorback under cover of night. This time, a group of Genestealers accompanied the Lictors. This time, the Night Terrors were prepared and a hail of heavy bolt pistol and grenade fire greeted the Tyranids as they approached. Vidar and Morven struck down the lead Lictor, although Vidar was laid low by corrosive acid from the dying Lictor. The Genestealers low armour was turned against them, as the multiple attacks of the Space Wolves decimated the four-armed fiends in close combat. Although Morven and Vidar went out of action, the remaining Night Terrors cleared the last of the Tyranids and were free to search the Razorback for information. Taking the data, the Night Terrors picked up their wounded and faded into the night.
