The Cartonian Dragoons trace their roots all the way to the Imperial Fists, but were themselves created during the Bastion Founding.
They do not follow the codex as conservatively as their cousins.
Among the most noteworthy deviancies are the use of red on knee pads and power packs, on sergeants, for easier identification on the battlefield.
The Dragoons are not specialized in any single form of combat but seek to master all levels. They fight in diverse and varied ways. But as successors of the mighty Imperial Fists, they master at driving their enemies from cover, and denying them any advantages from hiding.
During the Serian Incursion a battle group of Noble households gathered to support the Dragoons. Some were almost wiped out. But honouring old traditions between the Dragoons and the noble House Hawkshroud, the Freeblades were given a second chance to glory, fighting alongside the Dragoons, or their imperial defence force the Cartonian Guards.
With an ork invasion always imminent from the galactic east, the greenskin, and the green power armour often meet on the battlefield. Som worlds have been lost, but the Dragoons fight on.
Noteworthy battles:
Alkin Secundus: In a local dispute over who should get to fight the orks, the Dragoons clashed with a band of the fabled Space wolves. And as it was but a wargame, no casualties were dealt, both sides emerged with a renewed respect for their opponent, and a diplomatic solution were found.
Angrin Mere: one of several severe losses to the Necron dynasty roaming these far reaches of the sector. In the end, all further engagements were abandoned, and other of the imperial forces were deployed, while the tattered remains of the Dragoons withdrew to Cartonia in shame.
